Grand Prairie Police and Fire Fighters Associations Endorse Paula!

I’ve had the honor of working with local police and fire departments as both a city council woman and as a State Representative for Arlington and Grand Prairie.  It is humbling and gratifying to have earned their endorsement once again for my campaign to represent the good people of Arlington and Grand Prairie. “Paula Hightower Continue Reading »

Update on bizzare Email attacks

In a political campaign you always know you are on top when you are under attack. This week a bizarre anonymous email surfaced that falsely characterized my record of public service while feigning support for one of my two opponents. The entire episode was so strange that it caught the attention of a Washington, DC Continue Reading »

If they’re attacking – we’re winning.

Yesterday was a great day! Our supporters were in the field, going door to door, talking to voters about our plan to protect public education, create quality jobs and fight back against Rick Perry and his destructive policies. At the end of the evening, a supporter forwarded me an anonymous email she had received attacking me Continue Reading »

Reviving a tradition

While serving on the Arlington City Council I had a tradition of waiting until my birthday to file for re-election – it was sort of a good luck charm. Today, my birthday, I revived that tradition by filing for re-election to represent the working families of Arlington and Grand Prairie in the Texas House of Continue Reading »

A Marker for Justice…

Yesterday, I had the honor of being asked by the family of Timothy Cole to participate in the dedication of a Texas State Historical marker that was placed near his grave. Tim Cole was the first person in the history of Texas to be exonerated of a crime after they had died. The memorial details Tim’s history Continue Reading »

Todays Supreme Court hearing

Within the next week to ten days we will find out from the US Supreme Court whether or not a state legislature can essentially bypass the Voting Rights Act by running out the clock on the required pre-clearance process. For the sake of voters everywhere, I hope the answer is a resounding NO. The Justices Continue Reading »

New Years Wishes

The close of 2011 allows us to reflect on the successes and challenges we’ve faced throughout this year and reaffirms the importance of family, friends and community. As you celebrate (safely) this evening, remember that by working together we can fulfill the promise and potential of the coming year for all Texas families. I wish Continue Reading »

An open letter from Paula to her Mother

I’m sorry, Mom. Being a candidate means that I have to do some things you so patiently and lovingly taught me weren’t “proper.” I have to talk about myself. I know that it may look like bragging, but voters need to know who I am, what my record of public service is and why I’m Continue Reading »

Breaking news: Supreme Court stays new maps

The US Supreme Court has “stayed” the San Antonio Federal Court’s redrawn Congressional, State House, and State Senate maps.  Basically, the Supreme Court has indicated that there is at least one issue that they feel needs to be addressed.  At this time, it is not clear what map(s) will be used for the 2012 elections. Once we have Continue Reading »
